Buckpasser won 25 of his 31 starts, coming in second four times. His earnings as a two-year old (over $586 million) were an International record. Among his major wins were the Jockey Club Gold Cup (1966), the Arlington Classic (1966) and the Travers Stakes (1966) When Buckpasser retired he was syndicated for a nearly $5 million: a record $150,000 a share. He was inducted into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1970. Blood-Horse magazine ranked Buckpasser as #14 of the top 100 U.S. racehorses of the 20th century Buckpasser was bred and owned by Ogden Phipps.
