Affirmed was the eleventh and most recent (1978) winner of the American Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. He was the great-great-grandson of Triple Crown winner War Admiral, who was himself a son of the legendary Man o' War! Affirmed is particularly famous for his amazing rivalry with Alydar, whom Affirmed raced against ten times, including in all three Triple Crown races, and who became the first racehorse to finish second in all three Triple Crown races. Affirmed won an impressive 22 of his 29 starts, coming in second five times.
