Eight Belles (Unbridled's Song x Away) made history at Oaklawn Park by being the first filly in the track's history to win the Martha Washington Stakes, the Honeybee Stakes, and the Fantasy Stakes. Eight Belles' gallant second place finish as the only filly in a field of 20 horses in the 2008 Kentucky Derby impressed all who watched. What a tragedy it was when she became fatally injured just past the finish line. Artist Heather Rohde created this vibrant portrait as a tribute to this beautiful grey horse, showing Eight Belles on the day of her courageous Derby race. May she never be forgotten. Quote on bottom of piece reads: "Her heart carried her to a place beyond where her legs were meant to go."
