Perhaps horse racing's greatest rivalry, the speed battles between Affirmed and Alydar made for some of the most exciting races in history! The two courageous chestnut colts met in a total of ten races, including the 1978 Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes. Affirmed finished first and Alydar second in each of the Triple Crown races -- the only time in history such an occurrence has ever happened! Affirmed eventually outclassed Alydar as a racehorse but Alydar went on to have a much more successful stud career.
