Calumet Farm racing star Alydar (Raise a Native x Sweet Tooth) is perhaps best remembered for his thrilling duels on the track with Affirmed. He and Affirmed raced together 10 times, including all of the 1978 Triple Crown races, in which Alydar came in second each time. However, Alydar far outperformed his nemesis as a sire. Alydar's greatest offspring include Easy Goer, Alysheba, Strike the Gold, Turkoman, and Criminal Type. Alydar was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 1989.
