Remember the legacy of Kentucky Derby champion Ferdinand with this fine art tribute!
Ferdinand (Nijinsky x Banja Luka), an excellent grandson of Northern Dancer, won the prestigious Kentucky Derby in 1986. A year later, he won the Breeders' Cup Classic and received the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year and U.S. Champion Older Male Horse. Ferdinand earned more than $3.7 million in his racing career and retired as the fifth leading money winner of all time! Unfortunately, Ferdinand's foals did not perform well on the track, so he was eventually sold to an overseas breeder. In 2002, some horrible news surfaced in the United States: Ferdinand had been killed in a Japanese slaughterhouse. As a result of Ferdinand's tragic death, outraged horse racing fans and Thoroughbred rescue groups alike doubled their efforts to help unwanted and retired racehorses find loving new homes.Artist Heather Rohde's fine art portrait of Ferdinand features two views of the great horse. A quote on the border of the piece reads: "The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure." You can purchase Ferdinand unframed or framed under glass in a brown wood designer frame with an antique white mat. Your Ferdinand thoroughbred horse racing art is hand signed and numbered by the artist and is of exceptional quality. A Certificate of Authenticity is included. You'll also like Rohde's portrait of Exceller, another great racehorse with a similar story. Both horses are pictured together in Rohde's Ferdinand & Exceller art. Be sure to see Rohde's other Thoroughbred horse paintings!
