Tom Fool of Greentree Stables was an outstanding Thoroughbred racehorse who was the American Horse of the Year in 1953. He won an impressive 21 out of his 30 starts and came in second 7 times. Hall of Fame jockey Ted Atkinson, who rode many great horses, considered Tom Fool to be his best mount. As a stallion, Tom Fool sired winners of over 650 races in the United States and England, including over 30 excellent stakes winners like 1966 Horse of the Year Buckpasser and 1958 Kentucky Derby winner Tim Tam. Tom Fool is ranked among the top 11 Thoroughbred racehorses of the 20th century. He was inducted into the horse racing Hall of Fame in 1960.Rohde's fine art portrait of Tom Fool is a great way to remember this excellent horse.
