Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney's Equipoise (Pennant x Swinging) was an exceptional Thoroughbred racehorse who competed in the 1930s. Fans nicknamed Equipoise "The Chocolate Soldier" because of his elegant bearing and unusual dark liver chestnut color. Equipoise won 29 of his 51 starts. He carried significant weight in his races, giving him the reputation as "king of the handicap horses". Equipoise's earnings ranked the second highest in horse racing history up to that point. Although there were no formal awards at that time, Equipoise was later regarded as U.S. Horse of the Year in both 1932 and 1933 and as best older horse in 1932, 1933 and 1934.Rohde's fine art portrait of Equipoise is a great way to honor this excellent horse. Quote on bottom of piece under the horse's name reads: "(The Chocolate Soldier) could run on courage alone." You can purchase this fine portrait of Equipoise either unframed or framed in a beautiful brown wood designer frame with an antique white mat. Your Equipoise horse racing art is hand signed and numbered by the artist and is of exceptional quality. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
