Foaled in 1901, Roseben (Ben Strome x Rose Leaf) was an early American Thoroughbred Hall of Fame race horse who grew to such an enormous size (nearly 18 hands) that he was nicknamed "The Big Train." A sensation on the track, he won 52 of his 111 races and came in second 25 times. Roseben ran under weights between 130 and 140 in more than 85 of his races. His best known achievement came in a 1906 allowance race at Belmont Park where he set an American record for seven furlongs. It was close to 30 years before another horse equalled Roseben's time. A further 12 years passed before the record was beaten! Rohde's fine art portrait of Roseben is a great way to honor this excellent horse. Quote on bottom of piece under the horse's name reads: "Known as 'The Big Train', he was the greatest sprinter of his time." You can purchase this fine portrait of Roseben either unframed or framed in a beautiful brown wood designer frame with an antique white mat. Your Roseben horse racing art is hand signed and numbered by the artist and is of exceptional quality. A Certificate of Authenticity is included. Be sure to check out Rohde's other portraits of famous Thoroughbred racehorses!
