Owned by the legendary Belair Stud in Maryland, Nashua (Nasrullah x Segula) won six of his eight races as a two-year-old, and was named Horse of the Year the following year. He won the 1955 Preakness and Belmont Stakes, but lost the Kentucky Derby to the great Swaps. Nashua later won a much publicized match race against Swaps in Chicago. Nashua retired as only the second horse in racing history to have earned more than $1 million! He went on to become a successful stud, siring 77 stakes winners including Shuvee and Gold Digger, the dam of Mr. Prospector and Melbourne Cup champion Beldale Ball.
